A mechanism of action refers to the biological effect triggered by a specific ultrasound application. To date, identified applications include histotripsy, hyperthermia, non-thermal, and thermal ablation. Focused ultrasound can generate effects across a spectrum—from thermal to mechanical—each eliciting distinct biological responses in tissue, known as biological effects.
