HIFU ablation palliates pain, destroys early-stage tumors, and debulks unresectable cancers.
Clinical research applications include cancers of the breast, prostate, pancreas, liver, kidney, and bone, as well as non-cancerous tumors like uterine fibroids.

Varicose Vein Clinical Trial Completes Patient Enrollment in the US

Seventy participants have been treated in Theraclion’s VEINRESET clinical trial.
The trial is testing the Sonovein® device for the treatment of primary insufficiency of great saphenous veins, and results are expected next year.

Histotripsy for Liver Tumors: Novel Treatment Helps Patients Awaiting Organ Transplant

The United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) announced that histotripsy is now a recommended option to bridge patients as they await a liver transplant.
The noninvasive technique uses focused ultrasound to mechanically liquefy tissue and was cleared by the US FDA in October 2023 to destroy liver tumors.

Focused Ultrasound Intellectual Property Update: Second Quarter 2024

The Foundation tracks recently issued patents and patent applications filed with the US Patent Office related to the field.
Six new US patents related to focused ultrasound have been issued since March.
