University of Oxford Designated as a Focused Ultrasound Center of Excellence

The University of Oxford has become Europe’s fifth Center of Excellence and the eleventh worldwide.
Professor Constantin Coussios and Dr. Paul Lyon will co-lead the center.
The Centers of Excellence bring together key stakeholders to champion therapeutic ultrasound in innovative ways.

The Foundation and the National Brain Tumor Society will host a free webinar on sonodynamic therapy (SDT).
SDT is an emerging method of using focused ultrasound to activate agents that selectively accumulate in tumor cells and cause cell death.
Join us on Wednesday, October 11, at 11:00 am Eastern.

Cancer Immunotherapy Workshop White Paper Now Available

In July, the Foundation and its partners held a workshop to assess progress and define next steps related to focused ultrasound and cancer immunotherapy.
This was the Foundation’s fifth cancer immunotherapy workshop since 2015.
The workshop’s presentations, discussions, and action items have now been summarized in a white paper.

New Model for Pancreatic Cancer Research Developed at Virginia Tech

Researchers at Virginia Tech have developed the first large-animal model of human pancreatic cancer.
The team successfully engrafted the model with human pancreatic tumors and then treated the tumors with histotripsy.

Profound Medical Receives FDA Clearance for Thermal Boost AI Module

Profound is developing artificial intelligence (AI) modules that work with the TULSA-PRO device to customize prostate cancer treatment.
The first FDA-cleared AI module, Thermal Boost, enables physicians to increase the ablation target temperature in regions with advanced-stage cancer.
The module has already led to improved treatment outcomes in Europe.
