Request for Proposals: Focused Ultrasound and ALS Research

The Foundation and The ALS Association have partnered to advance transformational treatments for people with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
Up to $1 million in funding will support research projects that address critical questions to treat patients with ALS.
The deadline to apply is October 2.

Sonodynamic Therapy Roundtable Convenes Experts to Advance New Focused Ultrasound Application

A recent virtual roundtable meeting addressed key questions related to sonodynamic therapy (SDT).
SDT uses focused ultrasound to activate agents in tumor cells to cause cell death.
Nearly 30 people from 10 sites around the world attended the meeting.

Foundation Launches Postdoctoral Fellowship Program

The Postdoctoral Fellowship in Focused Ultrasound will provide $30,000 per year for two postdoctoral researchers employed at institutions around the world.
Early-career researchers who have recently obtained a PhD are eligible to apply.
Each Fellow will propose and design a focused ultrasound research project.

Meeting Report: American Society of Gene & Cell Therapy (ASGCT)

The American Society of Gene & Cell Therapy meeting was held May 16–20 in Los Angeles.
Leaders in the focused ultrasound field presented their work, and several scientific abstracts may be of interest to the community.
Frédéric Padilla, PhD, the Foundation’s research director for applied physics, attended the meeting.

Reimbursement Through the Eyes of CMS

In this blog, Thomas Scully discusses the structure of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the decisions behind coverage for new therapies.
Mr. Scully is the former administrator of CMS and a Foundation Council member.
