New Clinical Trial for Treating Varicose Veins with Focused Ultrasound

Theraclion has received US FDA clearance to begin a new pivotal clinical trial testing the Sonovein® device for the treatment of primary insufficiency of great saphenous veins.
The multicenter study, called VEINRESET, will take place at four centers in the US and Europe.

Foundation Mourns Loss of Alice Handy, Friend and Team Member

Alice served the Foundation as a friend, mentor, advocate, donor, investment committee member, and Council member.
She died on May 30 from complications related to early-stage dementia.

Focused Ultrasound Plus Microbubbles Enhances Glymphatic Transport in the Brain

A research team has published a preclinical study showing that focused ultrasound plus microbubbles can enhance glymphatic clearance in the brain.
This work has implications for treating stroke, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and other neurodegenerative disorders.
There are currently no noninvasive ways to access the glymphatic system in humans.

Neuroethics for Innovative Brain Technologies Series Published

An open-access collection of new articles, called “Neuroethics and Developing Brain Technology,” has been published.
The series addresses real and challenging ethical questions in neuroscience research and clinical care.
The Foundation prioritizes ethical issues to keep them at the forefront of the focused ultrasound community.

Funding Available for Research in the Fields of Epilepsy and ALS

Three organizations are seeking proposals for research projects related to two neurological diseases: epilepsy and ALS.
The deadlines to apply for these grants are June 26 through June 30.
