This novel technology focuses beams of ultrasound energy precisely and accurately on targets deep in the heart without damaging surrounding normal tissue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How it Works<\/strong><br>The mechanism of action is to use low-intensity focused ultrasound to induce intravenous nanoparticles to release therapeutics only in the heart, enabling precise therapeutic benefit without systemic toxicity. This novel technique <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC5877324\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"ek-link\"><strong>has been demonstrated<\/strong><\/a> using a preclinical model but has not yet been translated to the clinic.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Advantages<\/strong><br>The primary options for treatment of cardiac hypertrophy include lifestyle choices and medications, which frequently have limitations due to side effects. Surgical removal of cardiac hypertrophy has been considered and is still experimental.\u202f<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For certain patients, focused ultrasound could provide a noninvasive treatment for cardiac hypertrophy that could have less risk of complications \u2013 such as\u202fsurgical wound healing or infection \u2013 at a lower cost.\u202fIt can reach the desired target without damaging surrounding tissue and is repeatable, if necessary. Focused ultrasound may also be able to offer treatment for cardiac hypertrophy without the adverse side effects of current medications.\u202f<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-clinical-trials\">Clinical Trials<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>At the present time, there are no clinical trials recruiting patients for focused ultrasound treatment of cardiac hypertrophy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Foundation updates these pages regularly, but with the increasing number of clinical trials, we want to be sure that our audience has the latest information available.
