{"id":40905,"date":"2026-05-14T14:03:24","date_gmt":"2026-05-14T18:03:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fusfoundation.org\/?post_type=sw_disease_condition&#038;p=40905"},"modified":"2026-05-14T15:04:20","modified_gmt":"2026-05-14T19:04:20","slug":"restless-leg-syndrome","status":"publish","type":"sw_disease_condition","link":"https:\/\/www.fusfoundation.org\/diseases-and-conditions\/restless-leg-syndrome\/","title":{"rendered":"Restless Leg Syndrome"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-focused-ultrasound-therapy-nbsp\">Focused Ultrasound Therapy&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Focused ultrasound is&nbsp;a therapeutic technology&nbsp;that could transform the&nbsp;quality of life and decrease the cost of care for patients with&nbsp;restless leg syndrome.&nbsp;This novel technology focuses beams of ultrasound energy precisely and accurately on targets deep in the body without damaging surrounding normal tissue.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How it Works<\/strong>&nbsp;<br>Where the beams converge, focused ultrasound produces&nbsp;neuronavigation&nbsp;to the targeted area in the brain which over time reduced the symptoms in the patient.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The primary option for treatment of\u00a0restless leg syndrome is\u00a0medication.\u00a0For certain patients, focused ultrasound could provide a noninvasive\u00a0and more effective\u00a0alternative to\u00a0medications.\u00a0While significant work has been\u00a0accomplished, there is still much to be done before this technology\u00a0will be\u00a0widely available.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Advantages<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Focused ultrasound is noninvasive, so it does not carry added concerns like surgical wound healing or infection.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Focused ultrasound can reach the desired target without damaging surrounding tissue.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It can be&nbsp;repeated,&nbsp;if necessary.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-clinical-trials-nbsp\">Clinical Trials&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>At the present time, there are no clinical trials recruiting patients for focused ultrasound treatment of&nbsp;restless leg syndrome.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Foundation updates these pages regularly, but with the increasing number of clinical trials, we want to be sure that our audience has the latest information available.
