Focused ultrasound has emerged as a promising therapeutic option for many psychiatric disorders such as depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, opioid addiction, and more.

Clinical trials have indicated that focused ultrasound can effectively modulate neural circuits associated with these conditions by precisely delivering ultrasound energy to specific regions of the brain. In addition to neuromodulation, researchers are investigating a number of mechanisms by which focused ultrasound could be effective for these conditions, including thermal ablation, opening the blood-brain barrier to deliver drugs, and modulation of immune and inflammatory responses. While much more research is needed, focused ultrasound holds the potential to revolutionize psychiatric treatment by providing a safe, precise, and noninvasive alternative to conventional therapies.
